Q.  What was the first Hollywood made movie Madonna appeared in?

A.  Vision Quest

Vision Quest (released in the UK and Australia as Crazy for You) is a 1985 coming of age drama film starring Matthew Modine, Linda Fiorentino, and Ronny Cox. It is based on Terry Davis’ novel of the same name.[1] Modine plays a Spokane high school wrestler who falls in love with an older woman, an aspiring artist from New Jersey on her way to San Francisco. The film includes an appearance by Madonna, her first in a major motion picture, playing a singer at a local bar, where she performs the songs “Crazy for You” and “Gambler”. In some countries, the title of the film and soundtrack album was changed to market on Madonna’s emerging fame and the popularity of the song “Crazy for You”.

A Certain Sacrifice  was her first actual film debut.  It is a 1985 American drama film co-written and directed by Stephen Jon Lewicki and starring Madonna, Jeremy Pattnosh and Charles Kurtz. It was filmed around September 1979, but not released until 1985.

This was shot as a student film. The film is an “oddball” independent film, shot on-and-off over two years in New York City for just $20,000. Madonna finished her scenes in the Fall of 1980.  Madonna was unknown at the time but demanded she be paid for her work. The director required her to sign a release and paid her $100 for her work. Later when Madonna became successful she tried to ban the movie. The director refused citing the release she signed - -which only arose from her insistence to be paid.  It is no longer available at this time.
