AUGUST 2020 UPDATE... CLICK HERE to read the story in the Sarnia-Lambton This Week about Pat McGill and the masks he brings to sell at Cheeky Monkey.  Photo is from that article. JULY 20, 2020 update...NOW AVAILABLE AT CHEEKY MONKEY - PROTECTIVE FACE MASKS... This from Pat McGill...  I have been working with the coop women since April to finalize a design and fabrication technique for face masks. I received the first samples in early June and from those I chose two designs as shown in the picture below. The pleated design is based on one commonly used in Sarnia.  The Sarnia design has been upgraded to include a mouldable metal piece to help prevent air escape around the eyes (glasses are now less likely to fog). The conical design is from the coop but it also has the mouldable metal nose piece. The masks will sell at $10 each. Since receiving the ...

Trivia Q & A # 22 –...

Q. What 2014 movie revived an interest in 1970's music? A. From website songfacts.com... The movie Guardians of the Galaxy opens in America, reviving '70s favorites like "Hooked On A Feeling" and "Come And Get Your Love." In the film, Chris Pratt plays a human who totes a Walkman with a tape his mother gave him: the Awesome Mix Vol. 1. As he goes on galactic adventures, he plays songs from the tape, jamming out to "Go All The Way" on his ship and playing "Fooled Around And Fell In Love" for a romantic interlude. The tracks are not what you'd expect to hear in a superhero film, as the film's target audience was born decades later. But director James Gunn sees them as key to the development of Pratt's character, who loves these songs even if they aren't cool anymore. They also jibe with the quirky nature of the film, ...

Q & A # 21 – 2020

Q. Why did 1000 musicians simultaniously play Foo Fighters 'Learn To Fly'? A. In July 2015 in a field just outside of Cesena, Italy, 1000 musicians and singers play Foo Fighters "Learn to Fly" simultaneously with the dream of attracting the band to play a show in their city for the first time in nearly 20 years. Rockin' 1000, the group behind the idea, led by Fabrio Zaffanini, assemble hundreds of volunteers and a video crew to orchestrate the epic video shoot of the performance with the intention of getting Dave Grohl, frontman of Foo Fighters, to see it, and respond. After a full day of shooting, and few more for editing, the video includes a plea for the band to play in the city of less than 100,000 people. Within hours of the video being uploaded to YouTube, it goes viral, garnering over 10 million views, and is shared ...

Trivia Q & A # 20 –...

Q. According to Jason Bonham, what is the hardest Led Zeppelin song to play on drums? A. Rock and Roll. Since the death of his father, Jason Bonham has filled in behind the drum set for various Led Zeppelin reunion gigs. He told American Songwriter this is the hardest Zeppelin song to play as, "a lot of people out there try and play it, and really it's a two-handed shuffle all the way through, playing the sixteenth notes, it's not just boom bap-boom-bap-boom- bap, it's boom-boom-bap-bap-boom-boom-bap-bap on the snare and the hi-hat. It's a hard one to play properly." This song came about when the band was working on "Four Sticks" at the Headley Grange mansion they had rented in Hampshire, England to record the album. With a pretty much unplayable drum pattern, John Bonham got frustrated with the session, and tensions rose. In a pique of anger, he ...

Trivia Q & A # 19 –...

Q. What 1865 novel inspired the Jefferson Airplane song 'White Rabbit"? A. It doesn't seem likely that a children's novel from 1865 would find its way into a psychedelic hit from the '60s. That is, until you take a closer look at Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the story of a young girl who falls down a rabbit hole and discovers a world of talking animals and shape-shifting substances. Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane thought the whole thing sounded like an LSD trip and borrowed pieces of the plot for the band's 1967 hit "White Rabbit," named for the novel's humanlike hare.

Trivia Q & A # 18 –...

Q. What song did David Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust persona, perform on TV show Top Of The Pop's that catapulted him to stardom. A. Starman - In 1972, Bowie performed this song on the British TV show, Top of the Pops. Bowie appeared as the flame-haired Ziggy Stardust dressed in a multicolored jump suit. Bowie strummed a blue guitar while he moved flirtatiously alongside his guitarist, Mick Ronson. It was the first time many had seen Bowie and people were fascinated by his stage presence. This performance would catapult Bowie to stardom and prove wildly influential on the next generation of English rockers. Among the many who have cited this specific appearance as a transformative moment is Lol Tolhurst of The Cure, who writes in his memoir, "I remember sitting on my couch at home with my mother, watching this spectacle unfold, and at the point where Bowie sang ...

Trivia Q & A # 17 -2020

Q. What is the name of the spinoff band created by 2 members of the Talking Heads. A. Tom Tom Club was a side project he and his wife, bassist Tina Weymouth, came up with during an indefinite early hiatus, when lead singer David Byrne got a gig scoring the Twyla Tharp dance project, The Catherine Wheel. At first Chris and Tina weren't interested in having a side project, even when the fourth member of the group, guitarist and keyboard player Jerry Harrison, announced he was doing a solo album. It was actually their accountant who convinced them. He said, 'Yes, you're doing well, but you just did this big tour of the world with an eight piece band and you've only got about $2,000 in the bank. So you'd better do something.' Taking advantage of the early '80s hip hop/dance era, they concocted the Tom Tom Club, whose first ...
