ISO - Introductory Summer Strings Programme

The International Symphony Orchestra is pleased to be sponsoring an Introductory Summer Strings Programme, open to ages five and above. Adults/seniors are also welcome to take part.
Sessions will run from July 30th to August 3rd, 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. each morning, and will consist of instruction in the beginning elements of string playing, including: sound production; names of notes; correct hand and finger position; posture etc. Participants may choose to play either violin or cello, and instruments will be provided. A graduation recital will be taking place on the final day, August 3rd.
Classes will be held in the Sarnia location, 251 North Vidal Street. The fee for one person is $60; $110 for two; and $150 for three (in the same family). Bursary assistance is available subject to financial need.

Violin students will be under the instruction of Stephen Collins. Mr. Collins is the Director of the St. Cecilia Conservatory of Music, and is a violist with the International Symphony Orchestra. An accomplished string professional; Collins has performed with numerous orchestras throughout Canada. He has a solid background in teaching; holding a Master of Music in Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Victoria, B.C.
Cello students will be under the direction of ISO principal cellist, Barbara Armstrong. Born in Australia, Barbara began her cello studies at the age of eleven years. She received her Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of Regina, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario. Ms. Armstrong has served as principal cellist with the International Symphony Orchestra since 1982, and has been a featured soloist on many occasions. She has played professionally with orchestras in Regina, Saskatoon, Windsor, and London, as well as with the Canadian Opera Company.
