INRTODUCTORY SUMMER STRINGS PROGRAM

The International Symphony Orchestra is pleased to be sponsoring an Introductory Summer Strings Programme for ages five and over. Adults are also welcome to attend. Sessions will run July 21st to 25th, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. each morning, and will include instruction in the beginning elements of string playing: sound production/notes; correct hand and finger position; posture etc. Participants may select either violin or cello, and instruments will be provided.

To register, contact the ISO Office, 225 Davis Street, Sarnia, (519) 337-7775, prior to the July 14 deadline. The location of the sessions will depend on numbers enrolled. Participants will be notified of the location before the start date.

The fee is $50 for the 5 sessions, with some financial assistance available.

Violin students will be under the instruction of the St. Cecilia Conservatory of Music Director and International Symphony Orchestra violist, Stephen Collins. An accomplished violinist/violist, Collins has performed with numerous professional orchestras throughout Canada for the past 20 years. He has a solid background in teaching; holding a Master of Music in Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Victoria, B.C.

Cello students will be under the direction of ISO principal cellist, Barbara Armstrong. Born in Australia, Barbara began her cello studies at the age of eleven years. She received her Bachelor of Music in performance from the University of Regina, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario. Ms. Armstrong has been serving as principal cellist with the International Symphony Orchestra since 1982, and has been featured as soloist on many occasions. She has played professionally with orchestras in Regina, Saskatoon, Windsor, and London, in addition to the Canadian Opera Company.
