March 16 ~ 1926 - Jerry Lewis was born March 17 ~ 1968 - Bee Gees appear on the Ed Sullivan Show ~ 1919 - Nat King Cole is born ~ 1967 - Billy Corgan is born March 18 ~ 1972 - Neil Young has his first # 1 hit with "Heart of Gold'.  Released from the 1972 album Harvest, it is so far Young's only U.S. No. 1 single.  In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked it No. 297 on their list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.  The song, which features backup vocals of James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt, is one of a series of soft acoustic pieces which were written partly as a result of a back injury. Unable to stand for long periods of time, Young could not play his electric guitar and so returned to his acoustic guitar, which he could play sitting down. The album was recorded and mixed in two weeks at Atlantic Studios in New York City. It includes re-workings of "Trouble No More" and "Don't Want You No More," as well as notable originals such as "Dreams", which highlighted the band's jazz influence, and "Whipping Post", which became a crowd favorite. IDLEWILD SOUTH is the second album by American Southern rock band the Allman Brothers Band. March 9 ~ 1997 - Notorious B.I.G. dies in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles ~ 1942 - John Cale is born March 10 ~ 1973 - Pink Floyd release Dark Side Of The Moon in the U.S. & Canada March 11 ~ 1968 - Otis Redding's "Dock of the Bay" goes Gold. Co-written by soul singer Otis Redding and guitarist Steve Cropper. It was recorded by Redding twice in 1967, including once just days before his death in a plane crash. Redding wrote the first verse of the song, under the abbreviated title "Dock of the Bay," on a houseboat at Waldo Point in Sausalito, California. He had completed his famed performance at the Monterey Pop Festival just weeks earlier. While touring in support of the albums King & Queen (a collaboration with female vocalist Carla Thomas) and Live in Europe, he continued to scribble lines of the song on napkins and hotel paper. ...

The Entertainment Scene: Blues music coming to Sarnia First Friday. Stephen Bird, Glen Perry, Chris Jenniskens and Ricky Seed have formed The Four Barrel Blues Band. The group talks about their passion for playing music and how they are preparing for their first public gig at Cheeky Monkey. In The Community: Sarnia has one of the largest curling arena's in Ontario. Jeff Yates of Sarnia Golf & Curling Club talks about the 66th Annual Mixed International Bonspiel.
