RICHARD REED PARRY – QUIET RIVER OF DUST VOL. 2

Posted in: What's New | No Comments

RICHARD REED PARRY –...

The first volume of Quiet River of Dust was released on the autumn equinox of 2018; this second volume, out on the summer solstice of 2019, was created at the same time. Both volumes bleed into one another, by design. “It feels like a multi-sided window to me,” says Parry, “a different view into this prismatic song world.” Japanese folk myths, death poems and British folk music are tributaries flowing into a river of late‐20th century avant‐garde composition and traditional song craft, written and performed by a member of a Grammy‐winning rock band. This is a meditative, widescreen musical experience with Beach Boy harmonies and a hypnotic pulse. Layered songs that move in a linear fashion, following a current rather than circular composition.

SNOTTY NOSE REZ KIDS –...

Trapline is Snotty Nose Rez Kids’ 3rd full length album. Trapline brings a refreshing energy and an updated sound for the group. In a year and a half since their last release, The Average Savage (2017), SNRK have grown tremendously, and that growth can be found in their lyricism and shift to bringing carefully crafted lyrics to trap beats. Working with a mix of producers, Kato, Taylor King, Ear2theBeat, Don Xyan, Penacho, Ocean, and Pilgrim, SNRK take time to honour their history, their hometown in Kitimat, BC, and their nation, the Haisla Nation. 5 skits weave together intergenerational musings on teachings, stories and the literal trapline that delineates an Indigenous community’s place to hunt. If The Average Savage was a showcase of other talented Indigenous artists SNRK wanted to collaborate with, Trapline grows the web and includes a number of like‐minded and talented non‐Indigenous artists, international Indigenous artists, and a special collaboration with Inuit throat singer, Tanya Tagaq, on ‘Rebirth.’ Their ...

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN –...

Western Stars is the new album from Bruce Springsteen, and his first new studio album in five years. This collection of songs takes his music to a new place, drawing inspiration in part from the Southern California pop records of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. The album was recorded primarily at Springsteen’s home studio in New Jersey, with additional recording in California and New York. “This record is a return to my solo recordings featuring character driven songs and sweeping, cinematic orchestral arrangements," says Springsteen. "It's a jewel box of a record." The 13 tracks on Western Stars encompass a sweeping range of American themes, of highways and desert spaces, of isolation and community and the permanence of home and hope.

NEIL YOUNG – TUSCALOOSA

Neil Young Live In Concert with Stray Gators – Tuscaloosa, 1973 The next chapter of Neil Young’s ongoing archival series will spotlight a concert he played with the Stray Gators at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa on February 5th, 1973. Titled simply TUSCALOOSA, it will come out June 7th on a single CD and a three-sided vinyl album with etched artwork on side four. “It’s from the period right around Harvest and Tonight’s the Night,” Young told Rolling Stone earlier this year. “For me, it’s edgy. It’s like those mellow songs with an edge. It’s really trippy to be down in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and singing those songs from Harvest and the songs that we were doing for Time Fades Away before it came out. I found this thing and it had such a great attitude to it. I just loved the whole night, so I put that together with [engineer] John ...
