For those who think Tom Jones is nothing but kitsch, camp, and sex appeal, this rootsy, poignant, and highly spiritual album will come as a shock. On the other hand, for those who have kept up with his recent activity, Praise & Blame seemed inevitable with Sir Tom’s appearance in Martin Scorsese’s The Blues being the big clue. In the PBS documentary, Jones displayed a shockingly deep knowledge and deeper love of the American songbook, just as he does here. Perfectly chosen numbers from John Lee Hooker (“Burning Hell”), Rosetta Tharpe (“Strange Things”), and Jessie Mae Hemphill (“Lord Help”) support the album’s rite-of-passage theme as the now-70-year-old Jones rages and regrets throughout this selection of hallowed material. MARK BLANEY – ME AND MY...

Mark Blaney is a well known and respected figure in Sarnia-Lambton music circles and for good reason.  He started his musical career at the young age of seventeen entertaining in nightclubs throughout Southwestern Ontario.  His stage shows were known for the sense of humour he injected into his performances and his knack for wearing wacky novelty hats.  Moving on from there he was the 1991 winner of the regional CCMA Budding Country Talent Search going on to the national level.  In 1995 he appeared on CFPL London TV’s “Country’s In” where he showcased six of his original songs. Present day, Mark has found his true musical calling in the country/roots style that has become so popular of late.  This makes Mark a man ahead of his time.  On his 2009 CD ‘Just Me and My Guitar’, Mark’s emotion filled songs paint vivid pictures for the listener while his lone acoustic guitar surrounds ...
