Fast Romantics POV On Music...

This is an excerpt from an article on FYI Music, dated May 03, 2017 by Jason Schneider.  The interview is with Matthew Angus of FAST ROMANTICS of which local musician Nick McKinlay is the drummer.   He's the one in the red shirt front & centre in band photo.  This is a fast rising all Canadian band you will want to take a listen to and watch as they skyrocket upward. Below is an awesome video for song "Julia". Q.  If you could change anything about the music industry, what would it be? The way music is released and consumed now doesn’t inspire long attention spans. All of us, me included, suffer from shorter-than-natural attention spans. Sometimes I fear there’s so much going on and so much noise in the world now that far fewer people sit down and really dig into a record. We spent two years on this album and I know ...

Trivia Q & A # 17 –...

Q. There's no arguing that this band from Halifax, Nova Scotia, is one of Canada's most successful. Formed in 1969, the group can brag about releasing forty albums, as well as thirty-four singles. With lead singer Myles Goodwyn singing popular hits such as "Ooowatanite" and "The Whole World's Goin' Crazy", which famous "springtime band" would this be? A. The hint "springtime band" was referring to 'April' Wine.  They began in late 1969 in Waverley, Nova Scotia (a suburb of Halifax).   The band's name was chosen simply because members thought the two words sounded good together. The original members were brothers David Henman on guitar and Ritchie Henman on drums. Their cousin Jim Henman joined in on bass and Myles Goodwyn completed the sound on lead vocals and guitar. In early 1970 the band relocated to Montreal.  Shortly after arriving in their new home the band was signed by Aquarius Records.   They recorded and released their ...

Trivia Q & A # 16 –...

Q. "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" is one of the most popular songs produced by "The Band", comprised by both Canadian and American artists. But, who did write the song's lyrics? A. Canadian Robbie Robertson. The song talks about the suffering of the Confederate soldiers and civilian=s at the last days of the American Civil War. It recounts several dramatic, at least from the Confederate point of view, events, such as the Siege of Petersburg, the evacuation of the capital of Richmond and the capture of President Jefferson Davis. Robertson wrote that, when he visited the ex-Confederate States, he often heard people saying "The South will rise again" and he was touched by it. Robertson stated that he had the music to the song in his head but at first had no idea what it was to be about. Then the concept came to him and he did research on ...

HOW WAS RECORD STORE DAY 2017?

Well, there are not enough descriptive words to express how great it was. Thanks to all the wonderful suppliers & customers, we beat last years records every which way.  The suppliers provided us, as best they could, with more interesting titles than ever and the crowds where here to buy them in bigger numbers than previous years.  Along with taking advantage of our 'We pay the tax' sale' we exceeded expectations by a long shot. The shopper that came the farthest distance we are aware of was from Cincinnati Ohio.  Drove through the night to get here and be at the front of the line outside after he was forwarded our e-newsletter on Friday after closing with the list of exclusives we got by a local friend.  Had a few people in from Michigan, Toronto and London as well. Part of the fun day was the  3 mystery packages with cryptic names ...

Q. What was Rush's first chart single? A. "Closer to the Heart" is a single by Rush, released in 1977, from the album A Farewell to Kings. It was the first Rush song to feature a non-member as a songwriter in Peter Talbot, a friend of drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. It was issued as a single for Christmas 1977 and was Rush's first hit single in the United Kingdom, reaching No. 36 in the UK Singles Chart in February 1978.
