WHY? Impaired driving is escalating in our community. Sarnia Police say charges are up about 60% over this time last year. Some of this is due to incidents of drug-related crashes. Additionally, a disturbing trend is appearing with local police saying drivers are being caught with higher levels of impairment. A large percentage are well over twice the legal limit, according to Sarnia Const. Giovanni Sottosanti.
In Lambton County, OPP report impaired numbers that are consistent with 2018. However, there were 63 alcohol-related charges in Lambton last year. That’s a number that is far too high. Serious crashes that are entirely preventable continue to occur.
