The best of the Big Band swing sounds of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and Doc Severinson, along with vocal selections from Andrew Sisters, Michael Buble, Porgy and Bess and the Great American Songbook will be featured in this this unforgettable afternoon of music.. Featured will be such classics as Duke Ellington’s It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing, Glenn Miller Band’s In The Mood, Louis Prima’s Sing Sing Sing and many more explosive big-band era numbers.
ISO trumpeter and theatre music director Tim Hummel leads the Bluewater Big Band, a 17-piece jazz/swing band comprised of top-rated professionals from Toronto through to Detroit (including several local music teachers and past/present ISO members).
In a special appearance for this event, charismatic & versatile vocalist Anna Bateman will be teaming up with the Big Band for a number of tunes, including Gershwin’s Summertime, Peggy Lee’s molten classic Fever, and Lerner/Loewe’s Almost Like Being In Love.
Soprano Anna Bateman is noted as much for her stage presence as for her musicality. She is a dynamic and engaging performer who imbues warmth and charm into all of the music she sings.
As a soloist, Anna has performed at some of Toronto’s most prestigious and popular musical venues such as Casa Loma’s “Symphony in the Garden” under the baton of Maestro Kerry Stratton where she sang to over 1000 people a solo concert of popular jazz standards.
