El Camino - June 2018 First Friday
June 1st First Friday marks the return after three years, of the local band El Camino playing at Cheeky Monkey, Sarnia’s downtown records & more store.
In 2015, El Camino consisted of singer and rhythm guitarist Scott Whyte, lead and rhythm player Marvin Eskritt and percussionist Steve Bird. They were a tight three piece group described by local music reviewer Brian Hay as ” a unit that injected a lot of jump. Their cover songs become their own by respecting the material while testing its flexibility. The dynamic they have is formidable”.
Fast forward to 2018 and El Camino has expanded to include Lise Jordan on keyboards and Glen Perry on bass guitar adding a new dimension and depth to their already accomplished sound.
Lise is a well known keyboardist around the area playing in several bands over the years in all types of venues ranging from festivals to retirement homes. Glen’s musical roots go back to a childhood in Hamilton along with time spent in New Orleans giving him a wide exposure to many different musical styles and genres. Add these two seasoned musicians to Marvin’s guitar proficiency in everything from classical to blues/rock, Steve’s percussion skills influenced by his British roots listening to classic ’80’s rock and Scott’s talent on vocals you have what can only be a well rounded band. You have El Camino.
Stop into Cheeky Monkey located at 130 Christina Street North on the corner of Cromwell from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. while out on the June 1st First Friday Cultural Walkabout in the downtown Sarnia to enjoy El Camino supercharged music.
