What better way to enjoy the first First Friday of 2020 than with tried and true friends. With this in mind, Cheeky Monkey is thrilled to host musician Mike Blackmore (aka Blackmore & Blackmore) and artist W.A. Walters for the January 3rd evening of music and art from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Mike holds the record for the most times playing at Cheeky Monkey, Sarnia’s downtown records and more store, and for good reason. He is a creative, well rounded musician with a keen sense of humour. Playing both guitar and d’jembe drum along with occasionally singing, he has fun ‘showing off’ with his looping machine that gives him the advantage of accompanying himself.
Besides playing live gigs at various venues and events, he recently released a CD of his instrumental songs called “Coyote”. This new incarnation gives Mike even more flexibility when it comes to entertaining audiences.
Music aficionado Brian Hay has this to say about Blackmore & Blackmore and his newest recorded project. “With Mike Blackmore there are no shortcuts. That, along with the imagination involved, insures the music carries the spontaneity and warmth of something that’s been created on the spot. That’s true of his live shows and of his new release, the CD ‘Coyote’”
While at Cheeky Monkey whether for First Friday or any day, enjoy the plein air artwork of W.A. (Bill) Walters newest exhibit and sale called “Coastal”. Living as we do beside bodies of water, we know full well the beauty and fury that they can have. Bill has captured all this and more in his works he creates while painting outside, in the elements.
January 3rd First Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Cheeky Monkey, 130 Christina Street North is when you can hear and see two of Sarnia’s finest local talents.
