International Symphony Orchestra
presents our spring concerts
“In Memoriam”
The International Symphony Orchestra (ISO) will present inspiring and compelling works in keeping with this season
of reflection and renewal. These deep-dive concerts will be taking place Friday, March 29th, 7:30 p.m. at Hillside
Wesleyan Church, Clyde Township MI and Saturday, March 30th, 7:30 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church Sarnia, under
the baton of ISO Music Director, Douglas A. Bianchi.
Following Mozart’s Clemenza di Tito Overture, we present Canadian composer Anne Lauber’s poignant memorial
tribute In Memory of, providing a tender interlude for personal reminisces. This moving work will lead into the
powerful and monumentally beautiful Dvorak Mass in D minor, performed by the orchestra with the Symphony
Singers. Once considered a lesser work than the composer’s later music, today it stands as one of the great sacred
choral works in the musical canon. The Singers will follow the Dvorak Mass with the classic short choral work
Alleluia by Randall Thomson.
At the centre of “In Memoriam” is the Sibelius Violin Concerto, a fantastic solo and orchestral showpiece
featuring ISO concertmaster Sander Kostallari. For years an integral part of the symphony organization, Sander
began his training in his home nation of Albania and completed in violin performance at Wayne State. He has
featured in orchestras across the state of Michigan, including serving as concertmaster of the Livonia Symphony, and
is an active and engaged string instructor. The ISO is excited to present this monumental work showcasing his
sterling work.
Maestro Bianchi looks forward to the immersive program. “Every season we look forward to the March concerts,
where the repertoire can get so deep and memorable” he says, adding “and for the second straight concert series
we’re highlighting an orchestra member in an exciting and unforgettable work.”
