The Lambton Young Theatre Players are asking the folks of Lambton County to help celebrate Earth Day on April 21st, and support theatre for young people, by purchasing a rain barrel, or two! Rain barrels capture and store rain water collected from roofs through downspouts. They provide chlorine-free and fluoride-free water which is ideal for flowers, vegetables, lawns, shrubs and trees. Rain barrels divert clean water from sewer systems and can provide cost savings for homeowners who currently pay to have water trucked in or who have a water meter installed. Each rain barrel available through the Lambton Young Theatre Players is equipped with a mosquito and leaf debris filter basket, an overflow hose, an outlet to join rain barrels together in series and a spigot at the bottom which can be connected to a standard garden hose. These environmentally friendly products were once used to import fruits and vegetables and have ...

MoreMATT ANDERSEN’S INTERNATIONAL PUSH KEEPS MOVING FORWARD Canadian artist set to tour UK, Ireland and Holland in February and March. John Lee Hooker said it years ago: “It’s too late to quit now!” For guitarist singer and songwriter Matt Andersen, it’s not too late — but he’s pushing hard to build an international career, and it’s falling into place. Now — while he’s currently touring the interior of British Columbia on a seven-date sold-out tour — he’s preparing for a two-month trip to Europe, where he has nine concerts in Holland, and no less than 17 in England, Ireland and Scotland. The tour starts in Holland on February 24, and ends March 29 in the UK. After touring Australia — including seven days at the massive Woodford Folk Festival north of Brisbane over the Christmas-New Year’s period — he was one of the handfull of acoustic performers on the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise in ...
MoreSeveral years ago Sarnia's own harmonica virtuoso Mike Stevens along with east coasters Matt Andersen and Dave Gunning played at the Imperial Theatre. From the first moment we heard them playing together, we knew we were privileged to be seeing some extraordinary talent on our local stage. From this concert and subsequent tour a close friendship developed between Mike and Matt resulting in an album writing collaboration. In fact two CD's have resulted. 'Piggyback ' and last year, 'Push Record: The Banff Sessions. While working on the first album, we had the pleasure of organizing a concert for them at the Library Auditorium and getting to know Matt. Not only is he a big talent, but he is one of the most down to earth people you would want to meet. Between touring and writing with Mike, Matt also released his own CD called 'Coal Mining Blues'. As a result of this last ...
MoreAnne of Green Gables is one book that Cheeky Charlie has not gotten around to reading, yet he knows it is a great Canadian novel that depicts the life of a young orphan girl in the late 1800's in Prince Edward Island. To see the book be told as a play at our local Imperial Theatre by our city's very own Theatre Sarnia was a very exciting experience for Cheeky Charlie. The set design was very clever changing from the orphanage to the home of the Cuthbert family home, Green Gables, complete with garden outside the screen door. The actor's were all superb, especially the actress who played Anne (with an E). Cheeky Charlie is sorry he can't remember her name. He did a nice deed of giving his program to someone who didn't have one. Anyway, she was very impressive and believable in her role as were all the others ...
MoreOn Saturday, Nov. 19, we were witness to a very considerate act of kindness. Pierre Houle's photograph "Young Horsewoman" was the Grand Prize Winner in the 7th Annual Sarnia Photographic Club Photo Contest. The picture is of a young girl standing by her Belgian horse, Sara, after winning a 3rd Place ribbon for Youth Showmanship at the Wyoming Fair. At the very moment the picture was taken, the young woman was being praised for her performance by one of the judges. The look of pride and happiness on her face is so genuine. Between her beaming face and the fall lighting, the photo has the quality of a painting on canvas rather then a digital photo. Many people have stop into Cheeky Monkey to view all the fabulous entries, including the young ladies grandparents, uncle and other relatives. Through them, it was arranged for Pierre to meet his winning subject in person ...
