Our talented friend Dwayne Cloes has been busy once again with his video camera. A while back, he did a documentary on Cheeky Monkey called "The Last Record Store." CLICK HERE to view. Calgary's oddly named Canada Boy Vinyl (CBV) became a reality this weekend when Dean Reid's two-year near obsession to retro-fit a suburban industrial warehouse space printed out 12-inch pressings by Big Sugar and Calgary band Chron Goblin. The machines, purchased in Germany and the UK, have the capacity to stamp out several thousand pressings a day, according to GM Dillon Romney who, like Reid, is a graduate of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and both in their spare time play in local band Resurrection. The 6,500 square-foot plant also houses Magnetic North Studios that specializes in 2 inch analog tape and 24-track analog recording. MoreIAN TYSON has been announced as the University of Lethbridge Senate’s fourth 2015 Honorary Degree recipient. The U of L will present Tyson with the degree of Doctor of Laws, honouris causa on May 29. Fellow southern Alberta country entertainer Corb Lund will read Tyson’s citation at the official ceremony. Now 82, the retired Alberta rancher and author of "Four Strong Winds" recently released Carnero Vaquero, his 13th album for Stony Plain Records. Led Zeppelin has stood accused of nicking licks and melodies from a wide assortment of American bluesmen including Sonny Boy Williamson, Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, Robert Johnson, and Muddy Waters. MoreSTICKY FINGERS, the Rolling Stones classic 1971 album, is to be reissued, finally, with its famous zipper cover. The deluxe anniversary edition was schedule in April but a snag in manufacturing the original cover art pushed it back. Universal Music now has it scheduled for a June 9 release date. The original was the first release on the band's Rolling Stones Records label, after having been under contract since 1963 with Decca in the UK and London Records in NA. Much of the recording for Sticky Fingers was made using The Rolling Stones' mobile studio, which was recently purchased and refurbished by the National Music Centre in Calgary. Material included on that album will be included in the Stones' upcoming Zip Code summer tour which winds up July 15th at Quebec's Le Festival D’Été de Québec.
