Cheeky Charlie sitting in with hue Friday August 19 was a big day for Cheeky Charlie. He got his first crush on a girl. The object of his affection is the lovely singer with the band 'hue'. Cheeky Charlie met Jessica while the band was at Cheeky Monkey for a special in-store (actually outside) acoustic performance in the sunshine of the afternoon. He was honoured to be allowed to sit in with the band and even better dance with his sweetie. Later that night, hue played at Paddy Flaherty's. Roland and I went to Paddy's to hear hue play with full amplification. Their brand of catchy pop is certainly infectious. Dancing with Jessica of hue - being a Cheeky Charlie is GOOD! You can't help but bounce along to such great tunes as 'Bump' off their new CD 'Starting Fires' - which is available to buy in-store at Cheeky Monkey or ...

MoreThursday August 11, Cheeky CharlieCheeky Charlie rockin at The Mule with Nazareth rocked out with the legendary band Nazareth. Not only did they play some of the songs from their new CD "Big Dogz" but they also played many of their hits. Dan McCafferty still sounds as great now as he did during the bands heyday when they could have be considered one of the top rock bands on the planet. They started strong and got stronger as the night when on ending with a three song encore that included "Razamanaz", "Love Hurts" and "This Flight Tonight". Cheeky Charlie has never seen real bagpipes before and was thrilled to see McCafferty play them during "Hair Of The Dog".
MoreLocal artist, Mike Blackmore, spent the 2 days of ArtWalk 2011 taking photographs of passer-bys posed with his wooden statue PeaceMan knowing he would be doing an exhibit inside Cheeky Monkey during the months of August and September. Two are from the Annual Mud People event in Brights Grove and the other 2 are from Mike's travels in Mexico. Each is distinctly framed by Mike himself and all are also for sale.
MoreAmong the many monkeys residing at Cheeky Monkey is CHEEKY CHARLIE. He is by far the cheekiest of them all. Follow this blog to see what he is up to and who he meets in his adventures. with John Primer Recently Cheeky Charlie spent a day at the Kitchener Blues Festival. While there, he heard and saw Chicago 'real deal' bluesman John Primer, follwed by Saginaw Michigan three Kings (B.B., Freddie and Albert) influenced Larry McCray and finally the whole reason for being there, Bettye LaVette. Being a huge fan of Ms. LaVette's it was a real treat to be front and centre for her dynamic performance. Her eclectic musical style combines elements of soul, blues, rock and roll, funk, gospel, and country music. Bettye recorded her first album at the tender age of 16 and is proud to say she is now ...
MoreOn Saturday July 23rd, Cheeky Monkey had the honour of hosting a Bradleyboy Macarthur in-store event. Whether it was the heat or the threat of Armageddon, the turnout was light but Bradleyboy rewarded those in attendance with a blistering tour of his original approach to music. Al Fraser had this to say: Made it to BRADLEYBOY MacARTHUR’s show at Cheeky Monkey July 23rdand was thoroughly glad I did to see this one-man dynamo play garage rock trashy blues. His stripped down revved up songs of life dragged everyone along his gravel road, with suitcase stomp and hi-hat tambourine slap he kept his Jesus bobblehead shimmying, a fuzzed out vintage electric Harmony or crafted three string cigar box banjo rhythms jumped and slid up and down their necks all while his throat styling’s of harmonica or vocals echoed from a large chrome 50’s microphone sounding of a cross between John Lee Hooker and Jon ...
MoreIt was a music packed weekend at Cheeky Monkey during the first weekend of Bayfest 2011. On Friday a couple of members from THE TREWS stopped buy to do a little shopping. The guys were happy to pose with their new musical treasures on their way out. They also signed a some Trews CD's we had in stock for a few lucky customers. The Bayfest people tried something new this year to bring some visitors to the downtown area and we hope they plan on doing it again next year. Christina Street was closed between George and Cromwell so that artisans could set up booths on the street. There was also a stage with live music next to the future Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery. Not to be outdone, Cheeky Monkey had it's own entertainment on the sidewalk in front of our doors. Chin Wag, Portrait of You and Soul Patch all rocked the ...

MoreFriday May 27 was an extremely special night here at Cheeky Monkey. Our Red Carpet Stage was graced by not one amazing singer/songwriter, but TWO. Three if you count the guest singer!! First up was Dayna Manning who is originally from Stratford, but she now lives in B.C. Dayna has recorded three albums of beautifully crafted songs the most recent being “Folkyo” which you can purchase here at Cheeky Monkey. Her talent as a guitar player is matched by her singing voice creating heartfelt warm songs to be enjoyed over and over again. Her expertise at the finger picking style of playing guitar is as difficult as it sounds, however she does it with ease. It was a true pleasure to have the chance to meet her and hear her play. We hope she will stop in again and perform next time she ...
