Exquisitely produced by long-time collaborator Hal Willner, Horses and High Heels was recorded in New Orleans’ French Quarter last October with a core of exceptional local musicians. The album features 8 covers and 4 new songs co-written by Marianne, which feature the guitar playing of John Porter (Eric Clapton, Roxy Music, The Smiths); two cameos on guitar from Lou Reed, plus appearances from Dr. John and MC5’s Wayne Kramer.

That Faithfull is a profoundly distinctive scorched-earth torch-singer and richly emotive songwriter is in full evidence on the sonically stunning Horses. The covers of songs by Greg Dulli & Mark Lanegan, Jackie Lomax, Carole King, The Shangri-La’s, RB Morris, and Lesley Duncan (“Love Song”), made famous by Elton John) encompass brooding guitar-rock, swooning country-rock, bar-room blues, and 70s soul classics.
