High Canadian Content for Dec. First Friday

Posted in: First Friday, Local Talent, News | No Comments | Posted on by Mary Anne

bOnce again, local band BIG HIGHWAY delivered an evening of well played music with a healthy dose of Canadian content during the December 2. 2016 First Friday at Cheeky Monkey.

Kicking the night off with Tragically Hip’s ‘Three Pistols’ we all just knew it would be a good night of live music.  This was followed by several other Hip songs during the 2 sets along with some Big Sugar, Wide Mouth Mason, 54-40, Junkhouse and Matt Mays.  Not every song was Canadian.  They also had Current Swell, REM, Wallflowers, Black Keys and Counting Crows in the mix.  A real standout in my opinion was their version of ‘Down By The Water’ by the Decemberists.  The harmony between James McNaule, Andrew Germain and Dave Johnston was outstanding.  Behind them on drums keeping the steadiest of beats was Ric Brown.  All four members gel so well together, despite wide age differences, that you can’t help but enjoy their big sound.

JIt is a real pleasure hosting Big Highway at Cheeky Monkey – watch for them coming back again.

On the gallery walls of Cheeky Monkey is a totally new exhibit & sale by local artist (W.A.) BILL WALTERS titled ‘Jewels In The Mist’  To say his work is beautiful is an understatement– it really does have to be seen in person to be truly appreciated.

As a special Christmas promotion, Bill is giving every person who buys a painting a chance to take home a second one.  From the artists…

Jewels In the MistCHRISTMAS PROMOTION
Christmas Draw   Looking For The Perfect Gift?
This year, for those purchasing an original oil painting prior to Saturday, December 17th, their names will go into a hat with the opportunity to take home a second painting. The winning name drawn will be notified on Sunday December 18th. This is a $250 value for a 11″ x 14″, or a 12″ x 16″ framed painting, or it may be applied as cash toward a larger priced painting.
Your patronage and support is much appreciated. This an excellent opportunity to take home an original oil painting for yourself, or to give as a Christmas gift at this holiday season. I do try to keep my prices fair considering framing costs, price of materials, and gallery commissions when warranted. I do appreciate the time that you have given to look at my work!
Yours With Much Respect And Thanks,
(W.A.) Bill Walters

Summer South Skyline 08 29 2016 (i)On a personal note, Roland & I would like to publicly express our heartfelt gratitude to Bill.  Turns out he is a whiz with all types of paintbrushes.  He generously re-painted the back walls of the store along with patching and painted our front entrance.  Right down to adding new trim.  We are so lucky to have friends like Bill in our lives.
