For the June 7th First Friday, be prepared to discover what could be your new favourite band. For the first time, Cheeky Monkey, Sarnia’s downtown records & more store will be hosting the London, Ontario band WarwiK.
Southwestern Ontario has bred some of the most prolific and influential rock and hardcore bands of the past decade, and WarwiK is no exception. WarwiK formed officially in the early summer months of 2018 with vocalist, Derek Reno joining forces with long time friends and musical soulmates; guitarist Ian Wills and bassist, Kyle Carlos. Through trial and tribulation WarwiK came into fruition by means of guitarist Chris Burwell and drummer, Cody McGowan. From then on, WarwiK established it’s large and progressive rock sound. Drawing it’s influences from a variety of genres, WarwiK uses soulful grooves, chunky riffs, big bass lines, and memorable melodies to create their unique and driven sound. On stage, there is no question that you will feel the energy that fuels this band’s fire.
For the Cheeky Monkey performance expect a more tame version then usual of WarwiK in an acoustic format playing some covers by bands such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters and Blink 182 along with a taste of their original music.
While at Cheeky Monkey, check out the creations for sale by local plein air artist, Bill Walters. His current exhibit is called ironically, “The Easel Has Landed”. Bill’s sense of colour in nature are what set his work apart.
June 7th First Friday at Cheeky Monkey, located at 130 Christina Street North, runs from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. “The Easel Has Landed” exhibit and sale can be viewed during regular business hours as well.
