The mimimalist sets effectively evoked the atmosphere of each play and the note-perfect cast members were off-book after very little rehearsal time. Previewed during the evening were three classics: Arsenic and Old Lace, The Secret Garden, Guys and Dolls and two more modern pieces: Squabbles and Calendar Girls. Each Snippet left the guests wanting more of the promising upcoming season. As a bonus, the audience members were given a preview of the next production, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change!, which runs April 13-21, 2012. A reception followed in the Lawton Gallery, where performers and crew mingled with the appreciative audience. The talent of the actors, directors, backstage crew and all who contribute to mounting the productions is first-rate ...

Celebrate Earth Day & support Lambton Young Theatre...

Posted in: Friends & Neighbours, News | No Comments

The Lambton Young Theatre Players are asking the folks of Lambton County to help celebrate Earth Day on April 21st, and support theatre for young people, by purchasing a rain barrel, or two! Rain barrels capture and store rain water collected from roofs through downspouts. They provide chlorine-free and fluoride-free water which is ideal for flowers, vegetables, lawns, shrubs and trees. Rain barrels divert clean water from sewer systems and can provide cost savings for homeowners who currently pay to have water trucked in or who have a water meter installed. Each rain barrel available through the Lambton Young Theatre Players is equipped with a mosquito and leaf debris filter basket, an overflow hose, an outlet to join rain barrels together in series and a spigot at the bottom which can be connected to a standard garden hose. These environmentally friendly products were once used to import fruits and vegetables and have ...

March First Friday with Soul...

It was a blustery, rain night for the March 2nd First Friday in Sarnia's Downtown Cultural District.  Despite the inclement weather, the fans of First Friday were out 'n' about and making Cheeky Monkey a priority spot to stop at.  The reason for that was the local band Soul Patch and the photographic artwork of Pierre Houle. This was not the first time Soul Patch has performed at Cheeky Monkey and we're pretty sure it will not be the last - at least we hope not.  There was one difference in the band from previous performances.  A new member in accomplished multi-instrumentalist Craig Seaward joined lead singer/guitarist/keyboard player Dwayne Cloes, electric and upright bass player Dave Doyle and drummer Lyle Graham.  Craig's electric guitar added an extra dimension and energy to what are already excellent original songs. It was certainly an appreciative audience that braved the elements to be here.  There tenacity was rewarded by ...

2012 Academy Award Canadian...

Christopher Plummer became only the third octogenarian ever to win an Academy Award for acting. At 82 years and 75 days, he replaces George Burns (The Sunshine Boys, 80 years and 69 days) as the oldest male acting winner at the Oscars, and Jessica Tandy (Driving Miss Daisy, 80 years and 292 days) as the oldest ever acting winner outright. In his acceptance speech, Plummer joked about his age. Looking at his Oscar statuette, he said: "You’re only two years older than me darling, where have you been all of my life?” He was almost right – the first Academy Awards ceremony was held in May 1929, six months before Plummer was born. Plummer also thanked his fellow nominees, Beginners co-stars, and his wife, who he said "deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for coming to my rescue every day of my life". During a career spanning over five decades, the Canadian actor has appeared in many film, ...

For three hours on the afternoon of Saturday, February 25, young singer-songwriters Erika and Sara performed on the Red Carpet Stage at Cheeky Monkey. Their song selections range greatly with something to please every age group.  From Johnny Cash's 'Folsom Prison' to several covers from Adele's most recent album and the hit from Foster The People.  Erika's sweet emotion filled voice accompanied by Sara's skill on the acoustic guitar were especially pleasing on their version of The Beatles 'Let It Be'.
