WOLF PARADE – CRY CRY...

The indie rock combo Wolf Parade formed in 2003 in Montreal, where the band's first show saw them opening for Arcade Fire. From there, bandmates Dan Boeckner, Spencer Krug, Hadji Bakara, and Arlen Thompson recorded and self‐released a four‐song EP, followed by a six‐song recording in 2004. They eventually gained the attention of songwriter Isaac Brock, who doubled as the frontman of Modest Mouse and an A&R rep for Sub Pop Records. Brock helped the band secure a deal with Sub Pop while serving as a stylistic touchstone for Wolf Parade"s emerging sound, which merged indie rock with post‐punk. In July 2005, the quartet issued a self‐titled EP on the label by way of introduction; the band"s debut full‐length, Apologies to the Queen Mary, followed in September. It was one of the fall"s most anticipated releases, recorded with Brock"s help and released amid a critical flurry for such Canadian bands as Broken Social Scene, the Most Serene ...

LUCINDA WILLIAMS – THIS...

In a rare instance of an artist taking a full-length reconsideration of an earlier work, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams will release This Sweet Old World – a complete re-recording of her 1992 album Sweet Old World – via Highway 20/Thirty Tigers on OCT. 6. Produced by Williams and Tom Overby, This Sweet Old World — recorded to mark the 25th anniversary of the original album’s release by Chameleon/Elektra — features all-new renditions of the ’92 set’s 12 songs, some of which have been dramatically rearranged and rewritten. On This Sweet Old World, Williams is supported by her touring and studio band: guitarist Stuart Mathis, bassist David Sutton, and drummer Butch Norton. Longtime collaborator Greg Leisz – who participated in early sessions for the 1992 album, and co-produced Williams’ most recent studio releases, The Ghosts of Highway 20 (2016) and Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone (2014) – contributes spectacular guitar work. The package is augmented by four newly recorded bonus tracks that harken back to ...

LIAM GALLAGHER – AS YOU...

As You Were was recorded in two locations. Greg Kurstin performed all of the instruments on the four songs that he produced ("Wall Of Glass," "Paper Crown," "Come Back To Me" and the psychedelic whoosh of "It Doesn't Have To Be That Way"), while Dan Grech-Marguerat produced the remainder of the album at Snap! Studios in London. The result is exactly what you would have hoped a Liam Gallagher solo album would sound like: the passion for the classic 60s/70s influence that he's always had has been updated for the here and now. "I didn't want to be reinventing anything or going off on a space jazz odyssey," says Gallagher. "It's the Lennon ‘Cold Turkey' vibe, The Stones, the classics. But done my way, now."

PRIMUS – THE...

Primus has announced their ninth studio album ‘The Desaturating Seven’; out September 29 via ATO Records. This is the first studio album of original material since 1995's Tales From The Punchbowl with the classic Primus line‐up of Les Claypool (vocals, bass), Larry LaLonde (guitar) and Tim Alexander (drums). The Desaturating Seven is inspired by a 1970's children's book Claypool often read to his kids when they were growing up. The book tells a story of seven goblins ‐ one representing each color of the rainbow ‐ who simultaneously pull all of the color out of the world. "Many years ago when my children were little kidlets scurrying around the place wreaking havoc and whatnot till it was time for bed and book time, my wife turned them on to a book called "The Rainbow Goblins" by Ul De Rico," Claypool explained. "The dark imagery and beauty of the art struck me immediately and I thought, 'this would ...

RONNIE MONTROSE – 10 X...

Legendary Guitarist’s Final Album Features A Different Guitarist And Vocalist On Every Track, With Performances By Joe Bonamassa, Phil Collen, Rick Derringer, Sammy Hagar, Glenn Hughes, Brad Whitford, Edgar Winter, And More Before his untimely death in 2012, renowned American rock guitarist Ronnie Montrose began recording an ambitious passion project with bassist Ricky Phillips (Styx, Bad English) and drummer Eric Singer (Kiss, Alice Cooper). The idea was to record 10 songs with 10 different singers and call the album 10X10. Sadly, Montrose was unable to see the album through during his lifetime. Instead, Phillips made it his mission to finish the songs by enlisting a small army of Ronnie’s musician friends to record the vocals and the guitar solos for each song, completing the album in recent years. Phillips says the songs represent some of Montrose’s best work. “His songs still have the fire and angst of a young rebel, but ...
