NEIL YOUNG – HITCHHIKER

NEIL YOUNG – HITCHHIKER

Neil Young will open his archive and release Hitchhiker, an unreleased new studio album. The 10-track acoustic solo album was recorded in Malibu, CA at Indigo Studio in 1976. The original session was produced by Young’s long-time studio collaborator David Briggs. Recorded between Zuma and American Stars and Bars as a solo album in a single session, the resultant performances are truly breathtaking and passionate. The simplicity of a single voice and guitar captured here is as pure and powerful as it gets, with only Young, Briggs and actor Dean Stockwell in the room at the time of recording. A few of the songs would not appear on vinyl until years later. Some have never been heard, included in the original sessions for Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s Dume, another unreleased record of original sessions that yielded the classic album, Zuma. When the Hitchhiker album was recorded, none of the included ...

DEATH FROM ABOVE – OUTRAGE! IS NOW

DEATH FROM ABOVE –...

While gleefully maintaining the car-wreck intensity of their punkified disco rock, Death From Above’s hooks got hookier, weirdness got weirder, and wildness got, well, wilder on their third full-length album, Outrage! Is Now (Last Gang Records). The mustached merchants of death dance discord—Sebastien Grainger (vocals, drums) and Jesse F. Keeler (bass, keys, synths)—made a conscious decision to embrace their own penchant for perpetual motion and cooked up the perfect soundtrack to Armageddon’s dancefloor. The lads actually began pondering what became Outrage! Is Now while in the midst of finishing their 2014 record, The Physical World. Marking a sweaty and triumphant return after a near 10-year studio hiatus, their sophomore outing would be met with critical applause from Rolling Stone, Los Angeles Times, Monster Children, Uncut, Alternative Press, and KERRANG! who awarded it a rare perfect score. It filled a void left in the aftermath of 2004’s disruptively influential You’re A Woman, I’m A ...

JACK JOHNSON – ALL THE LIGHT ABOVE IT TOO

JACK JOHNSON – ALL THE...

"This album shares what has been on my mind during the past year or so," Johnson said of the record. "A year in which I sailed through the North Atlantic Gyre for a documentary about plastic pollution in the ocean. A year in which Trump was elected as the President of the United States. A year in which I camped, surfed, got stitches, explored, dreamed, shared time and endless conversations with my family and friends … all of which inspired these songs. I usually make sketches of the songs first then set up a time to actually record the album. This time around the original sketches became the final versions. I didn’t want to lose any of the spirit that a song has in its rawest form." – Jack Johnson, via RollingStone.com “My Mind Is For Sale”, which is the focus track of the album, was added to Spotify’s ‘New Music Friday’ Playlists in the US, UK, ...

TORI AMOS – NATIVE INVADER

TORI AMOS – NATIVE...

Native Invader is Tori’s 15th studio album, following on from 2014’s Unrepentant Geraldines – her 8th Billboard Top 10 album Speaking of the new album, Tori Amos says: “The songs on ‘Native Invader’ are being pushed by the Muses to find different ways of facing unforeseen challenges and in some cases dangerous conflicts. The record looks to Nature and how, through resilience, she heals herself The songs also wrestle with the question: what is our part in the destruction of our land, as well as ourselves, and in our relationships with each other? In life there can be the shock of unexpected fires, floods, earthquakes, or any cataclysmic ravager – both on the inside and outside of our minds. Sonically and visually, I wanted to look at how Nature creates with her opposing forces, becoming the ultimate regenerator through her cycles of death and re‐birth. Time and time again she is able to renew, can we find this renewal ...

KIP MOORE – SLOWHEART

KIP MOORE – SLOWHEART

For the past couple of years, Kip Moore has spent most of his time on the road, building one of country music’s most loyal audiences show by show and plotting what would become his sophomore album, Wild Ones. He was a road warrior, living out of a tour bus with his bandmates and playing more than 200 shows per year. For a songwriter who’d grown up in a quiet pocket of southern Georgia, performing to crowds across the world — crowds that knew every word to his best‐selling debut album, Up All Night — felt like a dream come true. Somewhere along the way, though, the highway became a lonely place. The routine was always the same: pull into town, play a show, pack up and leave. There was no stability, no comfort. Things weren’t much easier at home in Nashville, where Moore —whose first album had sent three songs to the top of ...

JAKE BUGG – HEARTS THAT STRAIN

JAKE BUGG – HEARTS THAT...

Raised on a steady diet of the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, and the brothers Gallagher, English singer/songwriter Jake Bugg blends the melodious, working-class swagger of the La's and the primal, bluesy simplicity of the White Stripes with the wry, weathered romanticism of Jens Lekman. Born in Nottingham, Bugg picked up the guitar at the age of 12, and within a year he was composing his own songs. Disinterested in the hip-hop and grime that dominated the listening habits of his peers, he turned to the classics for inspiration. Bugg's first brush with recognition came at the age of 17, when a local DJ began spinning one of the cuts he uploaded to BBC Introducing, a program that supports "unsigned, undiscovered, and under-the-radar musicians. "An invitation to play Glastonbury arrived shortly thereafter, and before he knew it, he was supporting acts like Lana Del Ray, Example. and Michael Kiwanuka, and had inked a deal with Mercury His first single, ...
