BOOKER T. JONES – THE...

The Road from Memphis starts with a young Booker T. Jones hauling his stack of newspapers to Phineas Newborn’s front yard where, while folding them for his after-school delivery route, he could listen to the jazz great practice piano. It ends with Booker and The Roots roaring through a set of both timeless and contemporary originals (and propulsive covers of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” and Lauren Hill’s “Everything Is Everything”). Along for the ride are vocalists Matt Berninger of the National, Yim Yames of My Morning Jacket, Sharon Jones, Lou Reed, and Booker himself, telling the story of how the funk/soul sound that Booker helped invent spiraled out from Memphis, touching The Root’s hometown of Philadelphia, New York (where engineer Gabe Roth has been recreating classic soul sonics for everyone from Sharon Jones to Amy Winehouse), and Detroit. Detroit as in Dennis Coffey, legendary Motown session guitarist who introduced driving rock-funk ...

NEW FOUND GLORY –...

New Found Glory vocalist Jordan Pundik may sing “I’m amazed that we’ve made it this far” on the band’s new full-length album Radiosurgery, but that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who has followed the band’s career trajectory. For the past fourteen years the Coral Spring, Florida, pop-punk act New Found Glory have transcended trends and gimmicks by writing songs from the heart that listeners of all ages can relate, including three gold records under their belts . The band’s latest studio album Radiosurgery sees New Found Glory continuing that journey while simultaneously paying homage to the bands that influenced them to pick up instruments as teenagers. From the Green Day-influenced opener “Radiosurgery” to melodic, upbeat anthems like “Ready, Aim, Fire!” the songs on Radiosurgery sound undeniably like New Found Glory but also have a timeless pop-punk feel that will invariably appeal to both veteran and new fans. After selling ...

JOE HENRY – REVERIE

Reverie came to fruition when Joe Henry and his fellow musicians convened in Henry’s basement studio for three days of exploration. The result is an all-acoustic album more full of life – from the birds chirping through the open windows to the ticking and shifting of the musicians — than any Henry has recorded. And that’s saying a lot: for more than two decades Grammy-winner Henry has produced some of the most celebrated names in music, from Ornette Coleman and Elvis Costello to Ani DiFranco and Madonna. Working with his regular stable of musicians and guests including master guitarist Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello), singer Jean McClain and organist Patrick Warren, along with a special appearance from recently produced Lisa Hannigan, Henry has produced another masterful set of songs.

JOE BONAMASSA & BETH HART...

One of music’s most powerful female voices and one of the world’s greatest guitar players come together on the new album Don’t Explain, featuring soulful covers that both celebrate and rethink the original recordings. Each known for their potent and expressive blues-rock sounds, Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa deliver scorching versions of ten classic songs first made famous by artists including Billie Holiday, Etta James, Tom Waits, Ray Charles, Delaney & Bonnie, Bill Withers, and Aretha Franklin. The album was recorded live in the studio over the course of four days in early 2011, with producer Kevin Shirley (Joe Bonamassa, Led Zeppelin, Black Crowes) capturing the raw energy generated by Hart and Bonamassa’s spirited collaboration. As charged as the tracks are, Hart also colors her interpretations with tenderness and vulnerability, adding nuance in equal measure to passion. Hart, Bonamassa, and Shirley considered a long list of songs before distilling it down to ...

Most artists spend their entire careers chasing that “middle space;” few artists find it. Then there is an artist like Murray McLauchlan who doesn’t search at all. ALEXANDER EBERT –...

Alexander Ebert, lead singer of Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, has released his debut solo album Alexander via Community Music. The album includes ten brand new songs that Alexander wrote and composed entirely himself.  During breaks from touring with the Zeroes over the past year, Alexander began building and recording the pieces that would become the songs for this album alone in his bedroom. Before this album, all of the music he worked on had been collaborative, especially with the 10-person Magnetic Zeroes. "I wanted to be able to build an album basically with my hands, like building a house by myself," Alexander remarked of his inspiration for making this album without outside help. There isn't a single sound on the ten-song album that Alexander didn't perform himself. Alone in his room, he had his guitar, a Lowery organ he picked up at a St. Vincent's thrift store in ...
