MARIANNE FAITHFULL –...

Exquisitely produced by long-time collaborator Hal Willner, Horses and High Heels was recorded in New Orleans’ French Quarter last October with a core of exceptional local musicians. The album features 8 covers and 4 new songs co-written by Marianne, which feature the guitar playing of John Porter (Eric Clapton, Roxy Music, The Smiths); two cameos on guitar from Lou Reed, plus appearances from Dr. John and MC5’s Wayne Kramer. That Faithfull is a profoundly distinctive scorched-earth torch-singer and richly emotive songwriter is in full evidence on the sonically stunning Horses. The covers of songs by Greg Dulli & Mark Lanegan, Jackie Lomax, Carole King, The Shangri-La’s, RB Morris, and Lesley Duncan (“Love Song”), made famous by Elton John) encompass brooding guitar-rock, swooning country-rock, bar-room blues, and 70s soul classics.

What began with the simple idea of all five members coming together at the Sonic Ranch in the border town of Tornillo, Texas (near El Paso), last year quickly resulted in a sonic windfall that saw the band writing nearly a dozen songs-and from there Taking Back Sunday never looked back. "The whole experience of us getting back ...
