ELLIOTT BROOD – DAYS...

Days Into Years is Elliott BROOD's third full-length recording, the follow-up to 2008's Polaris Prize short-listed Mountain Meadows. Like its predecessors, including the 2004 debut EP Tin Type and 2006's Juno-nominated Ambassador, it mines real history to connect songs that are deeply personal in a cinematic, narrative way. Unfolding like a series of movie scenes, it looks to the future by starting with the past. Opening track "Lindsay" invites you into process of revisiting one's life while cleaning out an old family home. "If I Get Old" daydreams of making it through difficult times, be they in the trenches or a sickbed, and finding a nice place in the country to live out one's final moments. Days Into Years presents these reflections as a celebration of life, particularly on the perfect summer single "Northern Air", a love letter both to the rural Ontario landscape and the memory of a departed ...

'Decadent' poems of thwarted love, ill-fated romance, decadence and death are woven with homoeroticism and laced with opium and are accompanied by Michael Cashmore's haunting and melancholic music that gives the verses a feeling of yearning for beauty and a longing for a lost innocence and youth.

BUSH – THE SEA OF...

Multi-platinum rock band BUSH return with their highly anticipated new album THE SEA OF MEMORIES.   Recorded with producer Bob Rock (Aerosmith, Metallica), THE SEA OF MEMORIES is the seminal band’s first studio release in 10 years. THE SEA OF MEMORIES captures the electricity and trademark intensity of classic Bush delivered in a setting that’s fresh and alive. Songs like “The Sound of Winter,” “Heart of the Matter” and “All Night Doctors” are propelled by heavy guitar and hypnotic beats, simple song structures and sublime textures. About the album, Rossdale says, “When making music, you have a choice to repeat what you’ve done or move on. It would’ve been safe to just rework (1994’s debut album) ‘Sixteen Stone’ over and over, but what kind of life would that be? When you’re driving down the road, you’re focused on what’s in front of you; you don’t really think to keep checking in your ...

THE JAYHAWKS – MOCKINGBIRD TIME

THE JAYHAWKS –...

During their heyday in the first half of the 1990s, The Jayhawks perfected a captivating sound that seamlessly blended the elegant folk-rock of The Byrds, the adventurousness of Buffalo Springfield, the hippiebilly soulfulness of The Flying Burrito Brothers, and the soaring harmonies of The Beach Boys. So it’s richly ironic that their reappearance coincides with a dramatic resurgence of the musical approach they played such a central role in perpetuating—but this time around, The Jayhawks themselves are revered as icons by the young bands carrying on those same traditions, and it’s their own legacy that they’re advancing. On Mockingbird Time, their eighth album, and the first with the original lineup since 1995’s Tomorrow The Green Grass, they’re once again pushing the envelope in songs and performances of rarefied dynamism and grace. The album’s shapes and textures range from the string-laden grandeur of “Hide Your Colors” and the widescreen vistas of “Tiny ...
