GUNSMOKE BLUES LIVE

On a weekend break in November 1971, the production crew of the popular television series Gunsmoke gave into temptation. They left Hollywood with gear in tow to go and film Muddy Waters, Big Mama Thornton, Big Joe Turner and George "Harmonica" Smith who were barnstorming the U.S. Pacific Northwest with their bands.  They managed to capture some of the best footage ever of these legendary performers, particularly the powerful presence of Muddy Waters.

RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS –...

Children are born, but a friend dies. A new guitarist arrives as the old one leaves. And a band is reborn after an overdue break. Beginnings and endings. That's I'm With You, truly the beginning of a new era for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The 10th album of the Los Angeles band's singular career sees the band refreshed, renewed, once again working with producer Rick Rubin (their fifth partnership, including the last album, 2006's monster Stadium Arcadium two-CD tour de force). It expands the same combination of funk and finesse, intensity and tenderness that's made the Peppers sine qua non in modern rock, but with a new set of life experiences from the intervening years that coalesced into a dynamically fresh start. I'm With You was written collectively by the four members - founding singer Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith (who's been with the band since 1989) and ...

RY COODER – PULL UP SOME DUST AND SIT DOWN

RY COODER – PULL UP SOME...

The 14 songs on Pull Up Some Dust And Sit Down are, by turns, angry, outraged, bitterly funny, and deeply poignant. With brilliant, Woody Guthrie-like directness and a healthy dollop of satire, Ry Cooder's lyrics address the often-sorry state of our domestic affairs: the bank bailout, the anti-immigration movement, the ever-growing gap between rich and poor, and the never-ending war in the Middle East and its devastating physical and emotional toll on young soldiers. While his words are excoriating, the music is as exhilarating as anything Cooder has ever recorded, incorporating folk, blues, gospel, Tin Pan Alley, and Mexican-American norteno. Cooder, who also produced the album, works alone in stripped-down voice-and-guitar settings. He's accompanied elsewhere by frequent collaborators such as drummer Joachim Cooder, accordionist Flaco Jimenez, and backing vocalist Juliette Commagere. Old friend Jim Keltner also makes a guest appearance on drums. Ry Cooder has long taken the road less traveled. In ...

WHITEHORSE – WHITEHORSE

Six Shooter Records‟ Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet tie the musical knot with the debut of their new band, Whitehorse, marrying their talent and chemistry on stage as an undeniably smoldering duo. Individually, they have been recognized with awards and nominations from the Juno Awards, the Canadian Folk Music Awards, the Hamilton Music Awards, the Independent Music Awards and the Polaris Prize. Gutsy and resolute in their pursuits of sound and substance, Luke and Melissa‟s fusion of the personal and professional brings to mind the road-tested romance of Johnny and June. Whitehorse breaks headlong and heartstrong in pursuit of it all, cards on the table, everything on the line. Whitehorse figures the odds the way travelers count miles, undaunted by twists and turns of luck and road, so let dice and wheel roll. This fall, Whitehorse will join Stuart McLean and the Vinyl Café for shows across Ontario. The band‟s debut shows at the ...
