MO POP FESTVIAL TICKET...

WHAT WAS MOPOP FESTIVAL LIKE YOU WONDER... ...It was awesome.  Roland and I attended the 2nd day (Sunday July 23) of the two day festival located just a bit west of Joe Louis Arena on Detroit's riverfront. The line up was impressive.  We got there in time to see Banners, Liverpool musician with a Sarnia connection - his bass player is originally from here and used to play in a band with our good friend (and occasionally helper) Ross Ellsworth.  Banners has a Coldplay vibe and we  predict great things to come for him. Our next favourite act, a new discovery to us was a band called Nothing But Thieves - also from England.  Don't think they expected it to be as roasting hot as it was - they had on long sleeves and leather jackets - but sounded fantastic.  They have new fans in us. Some of the other acts we caught were Shakey Graves and Father John Misty. Over all ...

Canada Leading the Way in New Vinyl Press

Canada Leading the Way in New...

FRONT PAGE STORY FROM THE GLOBE & MAIL... The hype around the 21st-century vinyl revival is starting to sound like a broken record. Music sales revenues have plummeted for more than a decade, but every year since 2011, stories have cropped up about the 30, 50 or sometimes 80 per cent year-over-year growth in vinyl sales. The spectacular rebirth of the LP, however, has come with unexpected growing pains. New record-pressing machines haven’t been manufactured for decades, forcing new manufacturers to dredge up and refurbish used, creaky presses. And demand far outweighs the industry’s capacity: only a finite number of old presses remain, forcing delays that can stretch six months or longer as labels wait their turn to press records. A new Canadian firm is coming to the record’s rescue. Backed by $1-million in funding commitments from a Greater Toronto Area investor, Viryl Technologies has designed a modernized, fully automated record press that ...
