Hello! You might remember that a year ago at this time we announced Theatre Sarnia's success at the WODL Festival. Our production of The Clean House was on the way to Theatre Ontario in Oshawa. Music sales revenues have plummeted for more than a decade, but every year since 2011, stories have cropped up about the 30, 50 or sometimes 80 per cent year-over-year growth in vinyl sales. The spectacular rebirth of the LP, however, has come with unexpected growing pains. New record-pressing machines haven’t been manufactured for decades, forcing new manufacturers to dredge up and refurbish used, creaky presses. And demand far outweighs the industry’s capacity: only a finite number of old presses remain, forcing delays that can stretch six months or longer as labels wait their turn to press records. A new Canadian firm is coming to the record’s rescue. The nominations for the 2016 JUNO Awards are now in. Leading the pack this year are the three Canadian male artists who dominated the charts here and internationally in 2015. The Weeknd notched six nominations, followed by Drake and Justin Bieber, with five apiece. Two fast-rising young stars, Alessia Cara and Shawn Mendes were nominated in four categories each, while Buffy Sainte-Marie, City and Colour, Walk Off The Earth, and Tobias Jesso Jr. scored three each. The blue-ribbon events in Calgary will run from March 28 to April 3, climaxing with the televised JUNO Awards show at The Calgary Saddledome on April 3. Our talented friend Dwayne Cloes has been busy once again with his video camera. A while back, he did a documentary on Cheeky Monkey called "The Last Record Store." CLICK HERE to view. Canada finally has vinyl...

As reported on website FYI Music... Calgary's oddly named Canada Boy Vinyl (CBV) became a reality this weekend when Dean Reid's two-year near obsession to retro-fit a suburban industrial warehouse space printed out 12-inch pressings by Big Sugar and Calgary band Chron Goblin. The machines, purchased in Germany and the UK, have the capacity to stamp out several thousand pressings a day, according to GM Dillon Romney who, like Reid, is a graduate of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and both in their spare time play in local band Resurrection. The 6,500 square-foot plant also houses Magnetic North Studios that specializes in 2 inch analog tape and 24-track analog recording.
