October 2015 Nugget of a First...

Sarnia's First Friday Celebration October 2015: El Camino at The Cheeky Monkey Review and  Photos By Brian Hay One of life's lessons: Things don't always go as planned. That was the situation for the owners of the Cheeky Monkey and the members of El Camino on Friday night. Singer and rhythm guitarist Scott Whyte had been fighting laryngitis all week and was just beginning to get his voice back. Cancelling would have been understandable but it wasn't what anyone wanted to do. Playing could be done, but sparingly. The trio opted to go for it. Another lesson: If the band isn't giving up the audience shouldn't either. [Scott] Whyte may have felt like he was having to bribe his vocal chords to keep him company but his musical skills and understanding of the songs wasn't diminished in the least. He has good control over his pitch so his singing was still even and wanting to ...

THE SHEEPDOGS – FUTURE...

THE SHEEPDOGS have announced the release of the highly anticipated follow-up to their 2012 award-winning self-titled LP. FUTURE NOSTALGIA arrives everywhere on October 2, 2015 via Warner Music. Produced by lead vocalist and songwriter Ewan Currie alongside engineer Matt Ross-Spang (former engineer at Memphis’ Sun Studios) the 18 freshly-minted tracks on Future Nostalgia were recorded in the quiet and idyllic setting of Stony Lake, Ontario, a conscientious choice by the band to ensure they kept all distractions at bay and the recording process as natural as possible. The band, comprised of Currie, Ryan Gullen (bass/vox), Sam Corbett (drums/vox), Shamus Currie (keys/horns) and Rusty Matyas (guitar/vox), set up camp up for several weeks in a rented house in the remote country where they trucked in equipment to build a studio in order to record their latest effort. Says Currie “We worked from morning ‘til night, but we kept it loose, had a real good time, and came away with a rock n’ roll record”. The latest record has ...

AVICII – STORIES

Avicii, global superstar and an artist who single‐handedly redefined the boundaries of contemporary dance music with debut, multi award‐winning album ‘True’ in 2013, is to release much‐anticipated follow up LP ‘Stories’ on October 2nd. Comprised of 14 new original tracks, including lead album single ‘Waiting For Love’  ‐ ‘Stories’ represents a natural progression in Avicii’s unique, ever‐blossoming sound. ‘True’ saw Avicii meld together acoustic instrumentation with contemporary electronic sounds, on ‘Stories’ he pushes this remit even further without sacrificing any of the anthemic, uplifting qualities that have come to define his music so resonantly. Avicii’s willingness to experiment is a defining influence right across ‘Stories’ too, none more so than on the soulful, jazzslanted ‘Touch Me’ and on the metallic, hip hop flavours of ‘Pure Grinding’ ‐ both a testament to how much his outlook has continued to evolve over the last two years. Guest vocals are also an exciting feature, with Coldplay’s Chris Martin a standout collaborator on ...

SEVENDUST – KILL THE...

Going into their eleventh full-length album, Kill The Flaw, Sevendust changed a lot around them regarding the infrastructure of their organization, but they didn’t alter what matters the most—the music. Following their first significant break (two months) since forming, the Atlanta group—Lajon Witherspoon [lead vocals], Clint lowery [lead guitar, backing vocals], John Connolly [rhythm guitar, backing vocals], Vince Hornsby [bass], and Morgan Rose [drums]—entered their new creative hub, Architekt Studios in Butler, New Jersey, completely inspired and invigorated. The first single and album opener “Thank You” upholds the pillars of their signature style with a buoyant guitar groove, bombastic drums, and soulfully striking refrain. “There’s always someone trying to keep you down,” sighs Lajon. “At the end of the day, that negativity makes you stronger. You’re still going. It says, ‘Thank you for putting me down. Thank you for making me work harder. Thank you for hating!’”
