Trivia Q & A # 38 -2015

Q. Canadian born singer songwriter Andy Kim had a mega hit on both sides of the Atlantic in 1974 with the song 'Rock Me Gently'. His biggest hit however was a song he wrote for another band years earlier. The song was the 'Billboard single of the year' in 1969 and also spent eight weeks at number 1 in the UK charts. Can you name the tasty ditty? A.  "Sugar, Sugar" by the Archies was produced by Jeff Barry, and the song was originally released on the album Everything's Archie. The album is the product of a group of studio musicians managed by Don Kirshner. Ron Dante's lead vocals were accompanied by those of Toni Wine (who sang the line "I'm gonna make your life so sweet"), and Andy Kim. Together they provided the voices of the Archies using multitracking. Upon its initial release, Kirshner had promotion men play it for radio ...

SULTANS OF STRING –...

BRAND NEW CD FROM 2X JUNO AWARD NOMINEES SULTANS OF STRING 2015 JUNO Award Nominees and SiriusXM Award Winners Sultans of String, serve up a smorgasbord of ragas, reels and rumbas in their fourth album. This special collaborative release, Subcontinental Drift, was recorded with sitar master Anwar Khurshid, famous for performing on soundtracks of Oscar winning Life of Pi, Love Guru, as well as with many artists such as Jesse Cook’s new CD “One World”. Subcontinental Drift is more than a global sonic tapestry. It is a musical promise that embraces differences while finding common ground across culture, land, and time. Indeed, while the album treks across all kinds of musical terrain, the fertile soil beneath each track is fed by hope unhindered and freedom found. “One of the songs we wrote together, Journey to Freedom, actually traces Anwar’s journey from Pakistan to Canada and finding his new home here. "He’s become a great musical and personal friend." ...
